Hey everyone! Many of you know that I went full time on Medcorder earlier this year. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s an app focused on improving decision making in medical care by helping patients and families get the most out of their time with a doctor. Headquartered from my garage, we already have hundreds of people using the app.
Today I’m excited to announce that we’ve closed a $2.5m seed round, led by Future Ventures. They have a great pair of GPs that I’ve respected a long while, and they are experts at finding and helping seed stage technology plays like mine. It’s great that we have such strong support to empower patients and their families in this way.
I’m honestly surprised that we seem to be the only company in the world focused on patients getting the most information out of a consultation with their doctor by letting them record the discussion. When my parents each went through their battles with cancer, I got to see first-hand the substantial volumes of information delivered during these meetings, most of it only said once. Without a good record, people lose the chance to fully understand their options and they may miss critical action items like follow-up appointments and medication or activity changes. Research makes clear the impact when patients don’t adhere to their doctor’s wishes. This is where I felt giving the patient and their loved ones better tools to use in these understandably stressful situations was likely to lead to much better outcomes.
You can try this app today on both iOS and Android. It lets anyone record a conversation with their doctor with the touch of a button and automatically transcribes and punctuates the discussion, delivering both the audio and the transcript immediately to the patient and sharing it with their loved ones. Medcorder also allows notes and ideas to be shared along with pictures and videos, and even one’s location so that an informal care team can be on the same page about what’s happening and what the options are.
Today the news about this funding is public, and our vision is to use this fuel to continue to improve the core product, adding new features that are helpful to patients.
